The Aquinas Fighting Irish soccer teams will open the 2010 season on the road on Feb. 23 in a Region 8AA-A contest against Jefferson.

The soccer schedule for the Irish boys and girls features several intriguing matchups, inclduing the home opener on Feb. 26 against Greenbrier at Aquinas.

Including Jefferson, Aquinas will face Region 8AA-A opponents Laney, Greene County, Lincoln County, Putnam County, and GMC.

The Lady Irish will look to improve on last year's 12-2-1 record and first-round playoff loss to Athens Academy, and will looking for someone to step up and replace leading scorer and Augusta Chronicle first-team all-area selection Kelsey Davis, who is now a freshman on the Coastal Carolina University soccer team. Senior Anne Marie Velky, also a first-team all area selection last season, will be counted on to fill the void left by Davis.

The Fighting Irish boys will look to improve on a 10-1-1 record last season, and feature a talented trio of highly-recruited seniors -- forward Ethan La Pan, midfielder Matthew Leonard and defenseman Chris Edry.
