Aquinas sophomore tennis player Denton Boone was named Prep Player of the Week by The Augusta Chronicle on Friday, April 16.
Prep Player of the Week: Denton Boone From The Augusta Chronicle, Friday, April 16, 2010
Q&A What did you do during Masters Week?: I played in a tournament in Valdosta, Ga., and visited Orlando, Fla., and Charleston, S.C. SEASON HIGHLIGHT: Beating Lakeside. I wouldn't say it was a complete surprise, but our whole team came together. It was nice. I CAN'T GO A WEEK WITHOUT READING: My math homework COMPARE YOUR GAME TO SOMEONE ON TOUR: I really can't. There aren't many pros who play an aggressive baseline game. That's what I like to do. FOOD I CRAVE AFTER A BIG MATCH: Krispy Kreme doughnuts ONE-HANDED OR TWO-HANDED BACKHAND: Two-handed WHO'S INFLUENCED YOUR GAME: Craig Jones at Petersburg Racquet Club. He's never too harsh and tells it like it is. RULE I'D CHANGE IN TENNIS: Eliminate the double-fault and give players three serves. My serve needs work. TV CHANNEL I CAN'T GO WITHOUT: Fox |

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW HIM: Boone is the No. 1 singles player on the unbeaten Irish tennis team, which won a region title this week at Newman Tennis Center and has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the state. Aquinas is 14-0 heading into next week's state playoffs and went 3-0 against area powers Greenbrier and Lakeside. Boone, in his second year on the team, has played in the No. 1 singles position during the season and is part of a team that has only one senior among its top seven players.
